As a general rule, once you reach age 18, you are responsible for finding and paying for your own shelter. Without adequate income or the support of a strong extended family, that can be a huge challenge. If you stay in Ohio’s foster care program through your 18th birthday, you will be eligible for services and programs that can help with that transition. If you’re already out of the system, you still can be eligible for services through age 21 if you reconnect with state foster care services. The bottom line: If you see housing as a challenge for you, stay in Ohio’s foster system. Contact your social worker. |

If I’m 18, what difference would it make whether I’m still “in the system”?
I became emancipated from the foster care system when I was 17. Am I still eligible for Chafee? I’m 16. If I stay in the foster care system, what kind of help can I expect? I don’t want to become involved with the foster care system again. Do I have other options? Helpful Links
